Default Sportsmans Guide M-16 retro assembly

well a while back I bought one of those M-16a1 kits from sportsmans guilde, as you know these kits do not come with a barrel or lower, the triangle handguard has a couple broken teeth and a crack at the top of the buttplate otherwise functional

A couple months back in July I ordered a 20" pencil profile barrel from alpha shooting sports shop.ar15hardware.com, this barrel is just that the barrel drilled for the gas block but no block or rings

then I decided to order another 20" pencil profile barrel from AR15sport.com, this one came fully asembled with FSB and rings,

I finished my second EP 80% lower last night, so I decided to see how it would go together, the only build portion was the lower. the SPG kit was just a simple assembly of parts, the only part missing was the roll pin for the gas tube but I had a extra, I can always swap out the lower with one of the aluminum 80% I did last winter and remove the cage around the mag release button as mentioned by fellow member "Willie" on this site and as seen on the nodak spud lowers to make it a true RETRO

    Damn, looks good Sprat.

Looks sweet! A lot easier than your Century FAL casting lower? Heh..Heh

Mines still in the box waiting on NDS & Green Mountain to get caught up.

    Might just follow your lead.

    Thanks guys appreciate the comments

bradrock of all the receivers I have ever done that Century casting was by far the toughest, these EP 80% polymers are like cutting butter, wish I had the spare cash I would get another M-16 kit

    oh the kit was $539.99
    M16A1 pencil profile barrel was $ 201
EP 80% lower polyer blem was $ 35
    $ 775.99 total

if you got a kit from royal tiger it would be cheaper by almost a couple hundred

Sprat; Do the barrels you bought have the old 1/12 twist or something more current? Like 1/7 or 9

I've been looking at the RT M16 kits........But keep buying the $89.00 CZ kits instead!.....Heh.....Heh

Watch that price jump when they run out.

Nice job and happy that it runs well for you. Still looking for a barrel for mine. Thinking about DIY with a take off and an extension.

    Thanks willie

I do like your idea about shaving the fence around the mag release on one of the alum receivers to give it that retro look
