    Willie - looking good.

    4th - unless I'm wrong (and I could very well be ) the rate of twist was changed because of different weight bullets.

    My barrel is a 1in12. When the US pushed for NATO acceptance of the 5.56 the Europeans agreed but wanted the Belgium 62gr lead with front hardened steel insert bullet for helmet perforation at 600m over the original 55gr FMJ. Hence the faster twist rate to 1in7. At least that is what I remember.Years ago I dissected one on a mill and the hard insert broke the endmill. The real deal front steel cores are friggin hard.

    the twist on the two current ( modern) 20" pencil gov't profile barrels I have is 1" in 9
    Sprat and sprat1 are one and the same.

    It's almost finished. just need to install the taper pins in the front sight. Used a Remington 700 barrel and machined to extension. Note last pic with Remington nomenclature!

    Why did they reduce the rate of twist?
    so they could shoot heaver bullets as I recall .
