Is this the right profile barrel for these kits, the outer dimensions?
I want to try and make it as close to an M16A1 clone as possible, and use as many parts from the kit too, like the GB and FSB.

Or this stripped barrel, looks like the same thing?

this barrel is very close to an A1 except it has a .750 gas block-- i have one of these and it is excellent.

the stripped barrel is an A2 profile, it is a little thicker and about 6-8oz more weight from the gas block to the muzzle.

the LW barres is very close to the a1 except it come with a modern twist rate of 1-9" and a 750 gas block.

    Thanks
That's the one in the first link I posted, don't know why mine didn't take?

Guess I got to look at my kit closer. So I might have to order a GB too?

green mountain makes very good barrels.

i have some of their a2s

that green mountain IS an a1 barrel --it has a .600+ some odd gas block size that matches the A1 surplus rifles. if your building a "period" pieces that is the one you want.

whatever barrel you choose get the one with the front site block pinned in place the original is the .625

here is the kit with a M-16 a-1 barrel 1-9 twist, yep anymore cheaper than doing a AK

Sprat I got this one from Green Mountain
    M16 A1 5.56mm 20" 1:12 twist 20" Barrel - Green Mountain Rifle Barrel Co.
It's the A1 profile & rifling (1 in 12), has the M4 feed ramps, and the only thing the reviews gave it a negative for was the color is more of a black then a gray.

I wanted to use as much from the kit as I could, and I really don't care about the rifling because I most likely won't shoot it much anyway.

Oh and JSE has a few of the three prong flash hiders, don't know if they are the right length but looks close enough.

there are only three left, all my M-16 a-1 kits came with the bird cage style, but I do have a upper I picked up years ago with a three prong, either would be acceptable, I believe the 1-12 uses 55 gr and 22lr real well, while the 1-9 uses everything.

lots of discussion on the M-4 feeding ramps and whether they are needed

j427x correct me is I have that backwards

I think the three prong were used on the models before the forward assist was added? But since it was only $7 I figured I'd grab one

I think your right about the 55 grn
