Default Enterprise receivers and receivers in general

What's the story on the Enterprise receivers? Are they good, bad, ugly or what? What are the receivers that I should avoid? Other than the DSA which I can't afford, what are the good ones?

I've used enterprise receiver on 2 of my fal builds with no problem. Fit and finish on my two were acceptable.
The only ohter receiver I considered (available???) was the Century. But, those who are much smarter than I said to avoid them like a plague.
    Hope this helps.

I've had good luck with Imbel receivers, if you can find one. They pop up on the secondary market every once in a while.

I have used Enterprise Receivers for several years now. I have built at least 17 rifles of various descriptions on Entreprise receivers. Some need work. But I can say the same thing about a Remington 700 action. Some need more work than others. Savage receivers need a lot of work too.

If you are going to build a rifle, you need to expect that you are going to hone, polish, and grind as needed. Some kits are pretty far out of spec as well. I have seen Imbel barreled kits that I have had to discard the barrel for various reasons. Those reasons normally begin with fit into the receiver.

My best advise is this: For the price of a DSA receiver, you can buy an Entreprise receiver, and a DSA Medium Contour barrel.

    Here are the links:

    FN FAL Metric Receivers

    SA58 FAL 21 Medium Contour Chrome Moly Barrel, .308 Cal. - 001H21-D S Arms

    This is a winning combo.

Strangely, I no longer own an Entreprise rifle. Both my L1A1 and my R1 are both Century. Both needed some work and tuning. If you do not like having to tune a rifle, avoid Century. If you are worried about Entreprise being in spec, avoid Century.

    More better now????

$300 - $350 in your hands is a fine price. They list at $299.00 which is similar to Century.

    Bellson,
I picked up an early Belgian FN FAL at the Knob Creek meet this month & needed a type one receiver for it. Thanks for the info about the enterprise receivers! I'll get to ordering one ASAP!

I have prob build 50-60 FALs on Enterprise receivers. Prob 40-50 on Imbel receivers. Prob 5-6 on DSA receivers. Maybe 10-12 on Century receivers. I have built 10 on Rossario Argentine receivers.

My favorites are the Imbels and the Rossario's. They are all uniformly perfect. Shame they are no longer really available. Those will spoil you.

The Enterprises were mostly OK. I had to send a few back. I modified several so that I could use them and for a better fit. I used to buy a dozen of them at a a time.
