I was digging through old pics and ran across this one. I figured y'all would like it.
I was over in Eastern DRC for a bit in 2008. This was one of my local security liaisons. I tried to get him to do some "skeet" with some water bottles when we were out in the boonies, but he wouldn't go for it. Hah! He was great guy and got us out of a jam at least once.
I never got a real close look, but I believe this was British FAL. Most of what we saw were Bulgarian SKS rifles with the sights falling off, Vietnam vintage M16s with everything except 5.56 crammed into the mag (guess they were just trying to look scary!). The private security on the copper mines usually had stens. I thought it was interesting to see those still in use. Local "police" were sporting underfolder AKs with all the bluing rubbed off from wear!
