We just received a large shipment of Saigas today, finally. One thing is the RAA import marks are taken out, not nicely in fact, but a way in which involves stipling/etching. Ugly as hell. I'm not sure how I'm going to remove this, as I haven't tried to polish it out yet. If that don't work, I'll tig the whole damn spot. I'll post pics in the morning. Just wondering if anyone has corrected this problem yet.
Thanks for that, I couldn't find anything when I searched. Still, I don't think all the markings are the same depth, I shall see within a week when I'm stuck cleaning them all after conversions.
The last 2 I have bought (both 7.62X39) have had that "patch"....I just used scotch brite and it came right off....then when I paint after the conversion you cannot even tell it was there.
I received two more 7.62's yesterday. Just laughed at the "patch".
(I have all the conversion parts for both guns from CSS. Still waiting for Dinzag for a few other parts. I know I know....he only ships during a full moon ) and will sand it off.
Somebody does need their ass kicked for that "cover up" decision for sure.
You would think the "new" importer would have just stamped their logo etc. on the other side and been done with it versus destroying the guns appearance with that hack job of a cover up.
Oh well. If that is all we have to bitch about I guess we are in pretty good shape.
The .223 I have has "Mercury Hermes" stamped on the left side of the receiver, IIRC. So apparently, the "patch" isn't terribly difficult to remove without power tools?
I sanded it smooth and when I finished (painted) the bottom I painted the side(s) with the 500f engine paint....cannot even notice the patch ....
