Wanting to have more of an original look, I plan on removeing the mag release also and want to replace with an original guard and mag release. Just wanted to know if it would work before I drill it out.
Just wondering. I used my original when I did my conversion and it turned out fine. You have to cut off the long end so it doesn't interfere whit the grip.
Be careful fitting an AK47 trigger guard/mag catch to a 5.45 rifle. The 47 mag catch is usually cut shorter than one for a 74, and you may wind up with a loose mag. You can always Tig up the catch, if you are so equiped, or replace the catch!
