It it's overall length is under 26" and/or the barrel is under 16" you have a SBR. I've never heard of an air rifle silencer being an NFA item, I'd be interested in seeing the case documentation on that. I wouldn't put it past then though.

Not quite... It has to be a rifle... the ATF in it's infinite wisdom says that short barrel firearms that are not rifles (or shotguns) (e.g. 1919A4) are not subject to the NFA as an SBR. They lack a rifle butt... So in theory that could apply to a number of firearms...

We had a big discussion on 1919 barrel length at the beltfed forum. I was looking at doing a shorty on one of mine, but since I also own an A6 kit (shoulder stock, carry handle, bipod) I figured I'd pass on it.

You could probably do a "semi-shorty" with a 16" barrel, it'd probably look cool on the A-6 too.

Problem is that the A6 has a stock... that would be another letter... and another brilliant legal interpretation by the ATF.

But if it has a 16" barrel it wouldn't matter if they classified it as a rifle.

yeah they make "fake silencers" for gas airsoft pistols, they say it dosentactually silence it though in the airsoft community it changes the tune from a high sharp pitch to a deep sound.

when they passed the pistol/ammo law years ago (when people were building the 7.62 pistols) I believe it only applied to 22 caliber or larger
