www.K-VAR.com has RPK barrels for $200 or so.

Also, on another board there was a thread about converting Lee-Enfield .303 barrels to fire the7.62X39 ammo. It stated these barrels were very suitable since they have almost identical bore diameter and twist rate as AK barrels.

I believe what you want is a Tabuk barrel. Search for it on the various boards. There was a groiup buy on them a wahile back, and they may still be available.

I believe the Tabuk barrel was for a larger trunion such as a Yugo. Don't think it would fit a Romy like anrkii is building anyway.

The Tabuk barrel sold by Cope's was made for a 23mm trunnion. It will work for just about any European spec 7.62 trunnion. The difference is the barrel blocks. The barrels lands are machined to use Chinese sized blocks:

    Rear Sight Base 0.734"
    Handguard Retainer 0.691"
    Gas Block 0.634"
    Front Sight Base 0.594"

You will be hard pressed to find one of these barrels, but it would not hurt to ask on this board, Guns-and-ammunition.com, AKForums.net, Gunboards.com, AKFiles.com, and a few others.

I'd be interested in one as well--but agree that it'd be hard to come by.

My only hope is drgrnr decides HE wants one and puts a fire under someone!

If you want something really different, I have a couple of stripped .303 (.311 bore) Bren barrels.
