Default Most effective AK flash hider/brake?

Which muzzle device best tames the fireball? If you wanted to put something on an AK rifle, short barrel or pistol, that would keep you from being blinded by the first low light shot, which would it be? For the sake of discussion, let's eliminate silencers and stick to non-NFA muzzle devices because it could just as easily be put on an AK pistol.

    I don't think you'll get a solid "best" answer.
Other then the slant brake, any of the brakes will help control muzzle flash, weither it works as a brake or not.
Can't really say about the flash hiders, don't think I ever tried any of them. But DPH has an AR style bird cage one for $10, fairly cheap if you want to get one to try.

The long tabuk flash hider from Nodakspud works very well to tame flash. Might look odd on a pistol though.

The pinnacle of flash suppressors is the 4 piece Bulgarian unit though.

The Bulgarian 4-piece is intreaguing to me. What are the four pieces? How does it work? I see it's about the most expensive option, is it worth it? Is it strictly a 5.45 unit? Or is it available for the classic 7.62?

Calling it a "4 piece" unit is a bit of a stretch. The 4th piece is the spring clip on the shell. They are avaialble in 7.62 and they reduce flash almost as well as a silencer. That cone baffle is damn near a silencer baffle. They're legal though.

Thanks for the pic, I don't think I ever saw one apart.

PWS makes compensators and flash suppressing compensators. They have two AK specific models, the J-Tac47 is a compensator. And the FSC47 which is dual purpose.(but they do have BATF letters confirming they are all non-flash suppressors) You can check out their demo videos here:

    JTac page - J-Tac47 - Compensators - PWS
    Has a video showing AMD65 one-handed.

    FSC page: - FSC47 - Compensators - PWS

Totally agree with chipmechanic. If you've ever fired an AK pistol or SBRed Krink, you know what kind of fireball they produce. This nearly eliminates it. It's the most effective flash hider I've seen.

PWS FCS30 on my standard length barrel. No magic maker, but it compensates very well over the cheap stuff. They also have outstanding customer service. Have not shot it at night. I would like to compare it to a faithfull recreation of the 74 style brake.
