Even if the price is about the same for a parts kit as it is for the entire weapon, as long as the kit does not contain the receiver, it can be purchased without a BATFE form being filled out. If you could find one locally, you buy it "cash and carry."
So, having an AK, I would like to get a complete (without receiver) parts kit for it. Then, I could probably count on using the gun for the rest of my life.

I don't care who knows what I have, because none of mine are registered. As far as anyone knows I took them to the farm and burned then and then threw then away in the landfill. I like AKs for their looks, and it is a legal hunting rifle here for deer, and it is plain old fun to shoot.

The reliability is the selling point for me. Sort of crude, almost ugly but so was my 1988 Toyota pickup w/250k miles that still ran when I sold it. (no wonder the extremists usually use both eh?)
“The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles.”

The thing That I like best about my AK is, that there is NO paper trail to me. Nobody can ever prove I have it unless they come into my house and search. And, I am planning to rectify that possibility shortly. Then, I (and maybe, one other) will be the only person on earth who will know where it is.
