    Default Building a AK74u Krinkov 5.45x39

As the title states, I'm building a AK74u Krinkov 5.45x39 from a kit. I have every thing except the Barrel.
As a factory barrel seems to cost around $1,000 [ THAT CRAZY] and the aftermarkets have dried up, I,m wondering
if a 16" barrel with a 22mm front profile in 5.45x39 will work?

at this point I would get a 223 barrel from K-var and by pass the whole 5.45mm issue

    IMHO

I don't know the specs off hand of the Krink barrel, but if the 16" is the same from the chamber end up as far as you need I'd go that route and cut it down.

IIRC there was an issue regarding the accuracy with a standard barrel being cut down. I vaguely remember problems with keyholing. You might want to do a search. Now if it's just needing to go "bang" and accuracy isn't an issue, then I'd get a 16" and send it and all the barrel components/bolt/trunnion off to Restoreit and have him headspace and populate the barrel. Very reasonable prices and phenomenal workmanship.

I second this, if you want to shoot it much. But if you want it to be authentic as possible I surely understand that.

jimmy, I see you found Bluejack's thread. Havent heard from him in awhile. All I seem to be able to find is k-var's 5.56 nato 8.25" bbl, and it is for a 23mm trunion, so if you went with that you would have to turn the chamber end down to 22mm. Don't give up, one will turn up!

AK74 5.56 Barrel non-chrome line, says it fits Bugly trunnion

Looked up issues with cutting 74 bbl and I see most folks say its fine. You will have to reprofile. But it should work out fine.

Thanks for your personal input on this matter. My next step is too order a barrel from Arms of America, as
they have what I seem to need.
