Ok, Ok, so folks want to see builds. This is what I am up to at the moment. It's liable to be a slow process, I don't even have all the parts yet!
This is a 1917 Spandau GEW 98 that I picked up for a good price. The barrel had been cut and had a pitted bore. The stock was chopped. The bolt handle was amateurishly bent. So basically I had a usable receiver, trigger guard.
I wanted to bring it back to original but I couldn't find a decent bbl at a decent price. So I decided to make it into a GEW 98 to 98K conversion like was done by the Germans prior to WWII. Doing it this way lets me use a new $40 Yugo 8mm mauser bbl from Copes. The rest is standard early 98k.
Numrich has most everything else I need to do this.
First thing to do is take the "safety ring" off the breech face of the new Yugo bbl. It wont work on a standard mauser. Since I don't own a lathe I filed it off very carefully.
