    Question WHATTABOUTABENT?

I believe my next Romy G build will be on a coldsteel bent, the question I have is about the recv thickness. I like the idea of using the heavier 0.065 recv but what issues will I be looking at to do a build on the thicker recv?

You need shorter center support spacer, a narrower rear trunion and a narrower barrel trunion. You can do it with a grinder if you are carefull of with a mill. The external dimensions of a 1.5mm receiver are the same. Its the inside thats narrower. Not a big deal. bolt carriers usually fit with out mods.

All I had to do, was use longer pins for the FCG.

Man, I wouldn't if I were you. Blanks are tough. You get one of those FCG axis pin holes in the wrong spot - just 1mm off - and you can throw it away. The worst thing is that you don't do the axis pin holes until the second-to-last step - after you've done almost ALL the work.

On the other hand it would make for one beefy Romanian.

Hi victory1st if you look at Coldsteels pictures on there web site that is my RPK in the 1st picture.
It is on the .065 reciver, I had to make my own pins.
I have some extras if you need them for $5.00 ea.
I make them about 1/8" longer and grind to fit.
The botton pin is a standard pin.
Send me a pm if you want any pins.

Why would you need longer pins if the outside dimensions of the RPK receiver are the same as other receivers in the AK series? The distance from the underside of the head to the end should be the same.

I think I get it. The yugo/romanian/russian rpk stuff are the same externally as standard receivers. The cold steel stuff must be wider externally and have the same internal dimensions. Then you'd need longer pins but you could use standard AK stuff inside. I get it although that pin in that pic is crazy longer than a standard AK pin

I've got a CSS RPK receiver at home and I believe it is correct on the outside. (I will check again tonight.) I agree with you chipmechanic that what you describe is probably true for thick AKM receivers, but it should not matter with the RPK as AKarl was describing. (Don't know about the Jug stuff.)

I've found the thicker coldsteel receivers to have the same internal dimensions, but different external ones. I used a spotface on the FCG holes so they would be long enough. It looks better than you'd think, the fcg pins heads are recessed and look like their supposed to be that way.
