Serial Comparisons, Romy G's only...

RULES:
--G'S ONLY!!!
--Please post all serials in one reply, as much as possible. I realize that some weapons may not be at your immediate disposal while others are, but please refrain from posting one serial per reply.
--Please, no auctions/for sales/photos of others' weapons. I don't want someone coming around and being all "TAKE THAT DOWN! I don't want my serial numbers exposed all over the internet!" Owners of the serial consent to my listing it by posting them here. Random auctions and other lists aren't consented by their owners, and I don't want anyone pissed at me.
--Please post in this fashion:

1980 XX XXXX
1980 X-XX XXXX
1981 X-XX XXXX
1986 X-XX XXXX

This just keeps the replies to a minimum, and it's easier for me to find where I left off.

Thanks,
- CK

So I was thinking... Nobody really knows that much about our rifles, aside from the year it was built and the year and month it was rebuilt...

I'm just sort of curious to see what kind of serial range these things have...

SO! If you've got a front trunnion that was originally a Romy G, please post the year and serial, how it's marked on the trunnion...

I'll go first:

1986 S-BT 3027
1986 S-BP 3244

Ya don't have to contribute, but it'd be nice if you did... With this comparison, we can nail down dates and eventually make a suggested month-of-manufacture chart... Also, it's hella neat...

1978 xx0946
1981 xx3028

well, don't actually have any guns but if i did these would be the numbers.
O.K. I'll play. Triangle with a arrow pointing up 1980 LN 1583. I'll give you some more later when I can get to them.
MUSIBIKE, 1phast340: Are these G's or non-G's?

Flopshot: The xx doesn't help us out... ;)

I don't think the serial dictates much aside from the consecutive number of firearms and parts rolling off the line... I'm more or less after the alphanumeric prefix... But, the serials are equally as important.

I'm thinking all of the G's were S-XX, whereas the non-G's were XX without the S...

Thanks, guys! :)

The 1980 S-AE is interesting... I've yet to see an S-Ax...

Almost the same project was started over at the ak forum on January 9 of this year. Not trying to stop this collection, but worth a trip over to get some data on the serial numbers and the armory stamps: The AK Forum :: Log in

The best explanation I've seen regarding the stamps is that, when Romanian introduced their 5.45 rifles, the arrow was dropped from the 5.45 trunnions to distinguish them from the 7.62 trunnions. Then someone noted that the trunnions were identical anyway, so all trunnions were stamped without the arrow. Saved a step and didn't make any difference to function.

Nice! Another early model! :D

If you've got anything earlier with S-XX, or later than '86 with S-XX, please post them!

Huh... Didn't think they'd be G's without the S...

So, there goes the S-xx theory. X)

empty triangle Romy G 1986 S-Bx2434
^^ Is the X actually there, or are you masking it? (Hard to tell over the internet, gotta ask)

I have one "G" kit with no "S" - from the AK forum survey and general consensus, the S series started in 1980, with some non-"S" overlap in the beginning of the year. Also, the occasional arrow triangle trunnion exists after 1980, as well.

1984, empty triangle, S-BA4256
1978, arrow triangle, IM3998

MD65 (parts kit, non-matching)
1970, arrow triangle, DA2331 (from what I can tell, the Romanians didn't distinguish "G" from non-"G" serial numbers).

WHOA!!!

I didn't think Romania made an AK variant in '46!!!!

You, sir, have the greatest Romanian AK ever...

UPDATE: I've added an arrow to those reported as having an arrow in the triangle... Just for kicks... It's the -> that follows the serial...

Is that '72 a G, or a non-G? I've never seen a G that old!

Also, is that '85 an "S-BB"?

1biggun: Is there any way I can convince you to reveal the last two numbers?

Sorry bud. Just noticed you wanted Gs...
Got to dig through the room again and recheck the list for you tomorrow.
No G on the 1972.
I'm getting drunk. The commie who stamped it must have been drunk also. So I can't tell till I sober up and recheck the 85 for you.

AHH NO. CALL ME PARINIOD BUT TO MANY ANTI GUN GUYS USING INFO LIKE THAT FOR THE WRONG RESONS. IT WOULD BE REAL EASY FOR SOME NUT BALL TO SAY HIS GUN NUMBER 6969XX WAS STOLEN AND THEN REPORT HE SAW IT HERE ECT JUST TO HAVE ME HASSELD. OR POSSABLY THE DAY WHEN THE LAW DECIDES TO CONSFICATE THAT THEY SHOW UP LOOKING FOR GUN NUMBER FU-69XX BECUSER THEY KNOW I GOT IT. ITS LIKELY NOT A BIG ISSUE JUST A LITTLE TO PERSONAL FOR ME. YOU HAVE THE INFO WITHIN 99 GUNS. IF YOU GET WERE YOU CAN START SHOWING A BREAK DOWN OF DIFFERANT TYPES OF MARKINGS IN RUNS SMALLER THAN 100 THEN I MIGHT RECONSIDER. THANK YOU FOR UNDER STANDING.

They might not actually be consecutive.

It can be shown that given a bunch of serial numbers from a consecutive set of serial numbers you can statistically estimate how large the production run was. In fact, the Allies were able to do that with German tank production during WW II. (Google "German Tank Problem") So, the East Bloc, sneaky types that they were, may have assigned numbers non-consecutively as a counter-intelligence measure. Our nuclear weapons and equipment had serials assigned from randomly generated lists specically for that reason.

That being said, [Open triangle] 1980 S-AE4220
