MSA said they are making a receiver like your talking about. It's called the BASTARD.
unless they are redesigning it, I'm sure it's a semi permanent design that bolts onto an AK receiver.

Thanks. I can't find any mention of it on their site. Is this real or "sometime in the future"?

I would definitely be interested if it is in the present or near future....

Semi-permanent would be good. Do you know if it involves removing the AK mag catch?

From my understanding, there will be a semi permanent and a permanent model also.
Maybe the permanent one comes as a complete rifle, I don't remember for sure?
    Here is some info.

I was going to put in the link to MSA, but gwailo did it for me

Thanks for the link to the S12 forum thread, it sounds like a good idea but it doesn't seem like it's come to be yet.

Im feeling adventurous. Bought a 74 kit and a weiger .223 barrel, 556 go/no guages, and a CSS 80% lower receiver. Its time i started a long running project. Going to see about making something like their adapter, only permanent, welded onto the lower rcvr.

The B.A.S.T.A.R.D looks like it would foot the bill, hope to see it soon.

Using either of the removable adapters require grinding or milling the underside of the front trunnion to allow the AR mag to seat high enough. I wonder if, by removing the AK mag catch/release, you coud sit the adapter back far enough to avoid monkeying with the trunnion, and still get it to feed properly?
