Default .223 AK-74 build progress with lotsa pictures

So i got the front end of a Weiger .223 barrel and AK-74 parts back from restoreit, who re-profiled the Weiger barrel and pressed and pinned all the stuff on, also headspaced it. Awesome job he did

So here is everything Im working with, all laid out. After I took the pic, i decided to use an Ace folder instead of the wood stock.

So first thing I did was mark where i needed to remove metal from the Cold Steel Solutions 80% blank. I used an AK-Builder.com 5.45 flat, then i checked everything with my calipers and ak blueprints of course....

    Then it was dremel time!

Once all that was done, I used the tape method to locate the trunnion holes, and drilled and riveted.

Then i put the AK-Builder Ace folding rear trunnion in that sucker, and used a ball-pean hammer.

Then I drilled and mounted the mag catch.

Yugo pistol grip, stock mounted just to see it.

Then more fun stuff - marking and drilling the FCG holes, did it right the first time! yay!

After that it came time to put some rails in it.

Then after some heat treating, stuck the front end in it for a mock up to see how she's gonna look. Still need to get a center brace rivet, different (US made) FCG, and a retainer plate.

Im VERY pleased with it so far... more to follow

Cool rifle. I really like the stock on it. How long is the turn around from restoreit? I'm contemplating sending certain parts from a m92 kit to him. I've seen nothing but nice work in all of the pictures anyone has ever posted. I've also heard he is really reasonable with the prices. Main thing i want to send out is that rear trunnion, and possibly the barrel so I could get the extractor cut on it.

    Thanks to all!

Ive been trying different mags in it, since i have no Weiger mags

So far, Surefire saiga .223 mags are to wide, and the Pro-Mag Saiga .223 mags fit and feed when hand cycled with snap-caps, but wobble side to side a ton, just like in my saiga. AK-74 mags fit fine obviously and surprisingly enough, feed .223 snap caps and dummies perfectly. I took a little to much off the ejector, so i had to put a bead of weld on it, and reshape it. Still waiting for the cross-brace rivet to get here, then its off to the range.

Ive got this one, one AMD-65, the AK-105 clone, and the 1963 Non-G Romy to take out, and i have had all weekend but havent gone.

Also, was really hoping Jfreisch would see this and the last few builds, because he once ban me from working on any parts kits, ever again, as long as i lived.
