The BATFE banned the importation of "assault rifles".
They decided that any rifle constructed using more than 10 imported "countable" parts would be considered a imported rifle, and therefore illegal.
Okay I am new (first post) and man am I dumb when it comes to AKs. I am pretty much a bolt action military rifle type of guy so about the only thing I know about AKs is they go bang. I've ordered a PMKMS kit over at Weaponeer's and I have pretty much decided on a GlobalTrades receiver. Ferget the home bending as I couldn't properly bend a paper clip. So what other U.S. parts do I need for this kit to make it 922r compliant? I've been trying to read as much as possible on this subject and just want to do it right and not end up a member of Uncle Sam's horizontal pinstripe suit club. Thanks in advance for any help given.
I don't know how much clearer I can make it, but here goes.
There are 16 countable parts in your PMKMS, no more than 10 of which can be imported.
You are going to use a US made receiver, so now you need at least 5 more US made parts.
Changing the FCG will give you 3 more US parts (hammer, trigger, disconnecter) now you need 2 more.
The easiest would be the PG and muzzle device
If you you want to keep the original PG or MD, you will need to change the gas piston or add some US mag parts.
The problem with that being, that you would need the US parts in every mag you own.
The rear trunnion is not a countable part. It is actually a "stock tang", not a trunnion.
However, there are US made ones available though, if you would prefer one.
