Fitting Barrel

So from what I can gather, .001 to .002 is the desirable interference.
After careful measuring, my trunnion is .904 and the new barrel (kit build) is .910. Which leaves me with a .006 interference. Way too much.
I am assuming that the barrel is the part to modify. Would fine emery cloth be the right way to take .004 off the barrel? (No lathe available.)

Thanks for the reply. I used emery cloth to polish the journal down. I did find .002 to be too light a fit. My end mill for the barrel pin cause the barrel to walk out of adjustment. Had to make a oversize pin and redrill. Barrel is in place and the action functions well. It strips rounds from the mag. It passes a std round, passes a rd. with a .004 shim, and fails the CIP "no go" gauge.
