Default the start of an interesting AMD65 project

I felt like it was Christmas in May with the different things that showed up in my mailbox. I got one package that was part of a trade deal and opened it to see a beautiful polytech 30 round AK mag. Then I got to the second package which was much heavier. It was the two fake cans that I was waiting for. These are for two AMD65 projects. One is for a friend of mine and the other is for me. Here is what the fake can looks like on the AMD65 barrel.

I figure this project is like a "poor mans krink" so to speak. Originally this topic was covered at this thread interesting AMD project . I was able to buy a shortened gas tube that was modified from a standard gas tube so that regular handguards could be used. Of course it would be awesome to have the galil handguard and folding stock that Tapco has teased us with. But either way I now have the last piece for this project (other than trying to decide what stock and handguards to use). I figure using a blind pin would be the best way to go, but will see how everything goes as the project progresses.

Here is a pic of the gas tube

Sniper-- Where did the fake cans come from?

Looks like they came with the right (left) threads.

    They add about 4" overall?

Winn, the cans came from chopperman (aka Larry). Chopperman is his username at gunsnet, though he hasn't posted there in a while. The fake can adds about 6" to the overall length (the length I had wanted). They did come with the standard AK threads (14.0 x1.0 LH).

, the gas tube has a black enamel paint on it and the fake can is black moly coated. The fsb and barrel are original finish that came on the kit. I can hardly wait to see (or shoot) the outcome, and it is always fun to dream about what it should look like. I just need to convince my 4 month old that she can spend lots of shop time with daddy,

Are there any pictures of others "poor man's krink" ?? I'm thinking of building my first kit and using a AMD65 kit but would like to install wood front grips (top and bottom) as well as a Krink style stock.
