The strap from the bottom of the tubing cut off originally made for good blocking cut to exact length so the sides could match the barrel end of the old reciever, and to counter,... straighten the warpage. One C-clamp maintained the new panel walls with blocking and another married up to the old reciever for initial tacking up, and then re-measuring before the final scald to make sure the OAL was correct on both sides. Each torch cut from the demilling was unique and had to be matched. I choose to measure along the top rail on each side subtracting off the differences in each side that added up to the OAL and maintaining the straight edge with a small piece of angle iron from the butt end of the reciever where I started. Lastly, the divot instead of the selector stop. I also tapped the trigger guard in with 8/32 button head screws. On the last thumbnail, you can see the rounded edge of the tubing as it marries into the square edge of the old reciever. If I was to do this again, I'd think about using square angle iron instead of the tubing approach.

I had a regular set of lower rails from another .040 receiver that I had previously wrecked. It would have been nice to use some heavy gauge lower rails like I have used from Cold Steel, but in this application, didn't have that kind of room on the inside. The hammer just slid in as is. Ususally the lower end of one lower rail has a hole for the hammer axis. Had to waste that area of lower rail to get the hammer by. The mag fit is SNUG. Had to bevel the bottom edge of the lower rail where the top of the mag slides in. All my 20 and 30 round mags fit great, but I discovered that the 5 and 10 rounders, and especially the Chinese 5 rounders will not fit without reshaping the tops and sides of the mags.

Outstanding work. This is the kind of stuff I like to see. Someone that isn't afraid to write a few new pages and add them to the book!!!

As I understand, It now is a US made semi-auto reciever and counts towards parts compliance
That is correct it is a 922(r) compliant semi reciever. I have an Official ATF letter stating so.

WOW that looks great. This is good info, thank you for posting this.

    Now a question for anyone.
What are the conditions of the milled kits on the market today?
