My thanks to wildman for the barrel and bolt and to Max for the trigger guard and tang. The rest of the parts were just things laying around.
The difficulty was the trunnion. Does anyone have a source for a Romanian AK 74 trunnion? I couldn't find one so this is the Romanian '47 trunnion converted to '74.
The conversion was in line with Ted Marshall's. A new bullet guide from K Var was riveted in place. The lower rear was milled out and instead of building up with welds, a simple bolt was installed on both sides and then milled to fit.
The trunnion was milled on the lugs -- I hated to say that. It was head spaced that way because the barrel and trunnion pin holes were in different counties.
I measured the dimensions of '74 trunnions so that the '47 lugs would be taken down no more than that.
I don't advise this be done. It has the potential of being horrendously unsafe.
Dirt -- I missed those!! And I looked. Oh well, I've missed the easy way out several times before in life.
That looks like it would fit perfectly.
And Matt -- I now see what you were referring to -- The narrow width of the '74 mag is contained in the lower rear trunnion with additional material. I just ran in some button heads and milled the threaded bolt out of the inside.
and it has given me a hellava headache. I need an Excedrin.
