Talking My first build: Bulgy AK74

Ok, I got my first build done! It was a painted wood Bulgy AK74 from ORF (the $230 special):

    I stripped the wood and:

...refinished it. The wood on these kits is very nice. The walnut lower handguard has some nice tiger striping, as does one side of the stock. A friend sandblasted the receiver to prep it for painting. Compliance parts are FCG, pistol grip, receiver and mag followers:

I built it on a DCI NDS-2 receiver with a custom SN to match the kit:

Finish is GunKote matte black. I did not refinish the parts, only the receiver and trigger. The other parts look more glossy than they actually are. The GunKote is a nice match, just not quite "black" enough:

    The final result:

A HUGE thank you goes to GunGuy1. Without his tools and help I never would have been able to build this.

Nice job Bones! Your wood was a lot nicer than the kit I'm working on now! But your right about the lower hand guard. Too bad the buttstock was not the same wood! My top guard had a big ol knot in it & the buttstock very drab. I'm doing the best i can. I want to know how it shoots

    Great looking rifle!
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

Thanks for the nice comments, guys.

BigAl, I didn't have a problem with the "not quite perfect" receiver. For a tight mag fit, my trunnion went all the way in where it's supposed to be.

For $40 the NDS-2 is a hell of a deal & you did'nt even have a problem with the fit...thats great!
