9mm with a modifyed 35round ppsh 41 mag.
here's a couple of pics,if you need more let me know.chapaev said:azhonkey, could you elaborate on the above? with some pictures perhaps? I am having a hard time imagining what exactly these measurements correspond to.. thanks in advance
PS. This is most superior design of the blowback bolt/carrier by far and I (as well as others, presumably) would love to use it in future conversion builds. Great work!:notworthy
chapaevchapaev said:azhonkey, i see what you mean now.. i assume you tig welded the trunion extention on there? that may complicate things.. (for me at least, since i don't have a tig).. How tight should the headspace be for blowback operation? i know you said 0.010 in, but i'm wondering how that number was decided on?

on the 9mm i used a barrel blank and sleved it.chapaev said:azhonkey, new question for you - how did you do the barrel?
I know people have used the pps-43 barrel with the following mods in order to accomodate the smaller barrel diameter:
1. Sleeve for the trunion & rsb
2. Receiver piece welded into the handguard retainer
3. Aluminum tape for the fsb
I have another idea, though it may be a litte bit unrealistic. What if one was to make a chamber insert out of the pps-43 barrel and fix it inside a romy barrel? Bear in mind that I have no idea fow this "fixing" would be done, but nonetheless.
As always, any comments, thoughts, etc are highly appreciated
.30 Luger is not Tokarev. .30 Mauser is Tokarev. It doesn't mean that you can't build a .30 Luger. You will use 9x19 mag instead of Tokarev mags.kernelkrink said:Clymer makes them, they're just mislabeled as .30 Luger!

how were you thinking of doing that (if the 30 mauser reamer works)?azhonkey said:i would like to rechamber a romy barrel but never could locate a chamber reamer in that caliber.
chuck up the romy barrel in the lathe, use a counter bore with a pilot.turn a plug and press it in and plug weld it.rechamber it with the .30 mauser reamer.chapaev said:how were you thinking of doing that (if the 30 mauser reamer works)?

i first used this design on the 7.62x25 conversion and it worked well.it's faster, less mods to make.press the barrel into the trunion same distance as originally barrel, chamber a round and push the bolt and carrier foreward till it locks onto the round,at this point tig the back of the bolt and carrier together.measure the distance between the left side of trunion and carrier.add that piece plus 10 thousants to the trunion and you're all set.the mag lips were extended about 1/4 inch also.also remove about 3/16 inch on face of charging handle.bolt face should extend about 1/8 inch past handle.the ppsh41 mag seems to work the best since the round is centered.you do have to modify it though.

call me thick headed but what keeps the bolt from turning in the trunion when the bolt is pushed in to grab the chamberd round to weld the bolt ? next is there a gas piston and is it used like a standard ak or is the blow back from the case trying to move back from chamber pressure. I just recived my uzi barrel and I am thinking (not good on my part) of a 9mm ak and scrap the home made sten for now. muttman

thanks for clearing this up. I think this type of 9mm build looks easer at the start but the mad housing for a singel stack might be the deal breaker for me. if the after market drun housing will work with a stick mag then I think make it work. time will tell. muttman

By the way I really want to build this, it looks great!
