I just recentlly finished a beltfeed ak-47 base fire arm with a scratch built receiver, a MG-3 top cover/belt feed mechanism, FAL fcg, scratch built stock, grip frame & grips and forearm, k98 rear sight and m60 return spring. You can see photos of it on PHOTOBUCKET, search for 300 WSM FAL or SHARPSSHOOTER5090.
Doubletapme designed & built the first 9mm Suomi-drumfed AK's. They are really fun builds!
I sent him pics of my MG47 build as it progressed, hoping he'd jump onboard - and here's what he built
*Receiver and lower is semi-only* so please, no tangent remarks on that, please
Doubletapme is a REAL machinist (unlike myself) as the pics show. You see what he did differently, inside
That is another great looking build. Should take a while for the barrel to heat up on that one.
One other question. On cntrailrider's build pics it looks like a MG3 feed tray then he switched to a MG1 without the flipper on the tray. Is there a reason that a MG3 tray wouldn't except for the drum bracket being in the way of the ejection port?
I switched alot of things as I went, but yes I had to cut the drum bracket off the MG3 tray for the ejection port
I can run either feed tray. MG3 tray has the spring-loaded cartridge stop (easier handcycling & test-feed during the build) but the MG1 tray seems to feed/shoot better. Remember I am running a stock piston - don't have excess pressure to waste, driving springs, generators, appliances etc
Bought my tubing at the local steel supply for about $30 (enough for two) I call first, @ $3 a gallon

I think you did a much better job on your build than I did. Very nice machining. I like your double return spring and the way you modified your bolt carrier. I also like the Bren barrel. Looks like you made a oversize gas piston.
SHARPSSHOOTER,
The credit is all yours for coming up with the idea.
I am thoroughly impressed with your build and steve's.
The bren barrel is huge and makes for a very heavy weapon. It works great from a bench or prone position but you could not fire it off hand very easy. Later I am going to build another in a lightweight carbine version.
i just told DT that maybe 80 % do able ACTUALLY in this "pipe" there is NO firecontrol holes ect so maybe if you just didnt cut out the hole for the parts to be inserted it would be ie just a pipe?
I already have my RPK kits and parts as well as the CETME semi firecontrol lwer from my rifle which I recently changed grips on (went to Navy lower from PTR) I have been iching to use it in something and it appears somebody had the same idea.
Run these tubes off in bulk with just a pattern or blueprint with the dimension so we can cut/mill out the slots. It really would be just a tube. Nothing fancy. The welding would already be done and then you could even dremmel out the top of the receiver and the slot in the side for the charging handle and the ejeciton port.
Then do a group buy for the bolt conversion and we can all have a go for it.
I'm in for (2) two as soon as somebody ponies up.

If you do, be sure to send one in to the ATF tech branch for a non-firearm ruling. It should be just a chunk of metal but who knows how they would rule.
it's NOT a gun Gunter it's scrap metal !! and we dont need em knowing too much about this or they will say that steel tubing is a receiver. think about it! it's JUST tube . it becomes a receiver once you cut your hole for the fire control parts.
Pictures of receivers underside please where the trigger group goes?
And KT Ordnance was selling 80% receivers that were the same as others, but didn't send one in for a ruling. BATF decides that it was a firearm and now they are in deep do-do.
Yes, it should be a non-firearm, but when offering them to the public it isn't until they say is isn't. Just trying to make sure that nobody ends up in trouble.
I was going to sell 80% receivers for semi autos and post sample machine guns. Actually it is an 80% part that will make the gun fire. It consists of a ball of sting along with some nylon sleeves that you cut to length and then heat with a lighter to stop the ends of the string from fraying. I was about to send in a sample to the ATF for approval as an 80% when just the other day I dropped a load in my pants when I went to the store and saw 100% completed kits of what I was going to sell and believe it or not they were available in Wallymart. Actually all stores carry them in the shoe department. I guess somebody beat me to the production of them. I can't figure out how they are selling them to the public without Brady checks. I grabbed a whole bunch of them and they had them in all sorts of finishes, ie: black, white, flaurescent and crazily enough with Dora and Diego and Elmo pictures on them but what the heck. I threw them up on the counter with a weazily look on my face and dropped my concealed carry permit down for ID to purchase and the clerk just looked at me like I was crazy. Anybody else run into these type of fire control parts before?

I understand what you mean, but to be more on the safe side why not take the two tubes and do most of the cuts and sell them as two pieces of cut tubing, the buyer has to weld them together to make it into a reciever. Just a thought.
I am a professional welder Send me your receivers in Canada and i will weld them for you..or you can sponsor me to immigrate to the US and i can weld them all for you there :brows: I work cheap...pay me in AK's :thumbup1:
MkCanuk, just come over, hell all the Mexicans are.
As for welding (which I have one but can't work it to well), just clamp everything up the way it needs to be and go to your local garage or muffler shop, they can weld and usually don't charge to much.
