    Default Old Romy Made Purty!

    This is my first AK-47 attempt and I wanted the old war horse to look new again. The receiver was a flat from AK-builder and it was bent on a home made 555th jig. I used rivets for the build and a home made Plinker’s jig for installation. I’m not going to cover the actual build since it has been covered in great detail in earlier posts. This is the “finishing touches” section for those posts!

    After the build was complete, I stripped the old finish with muriatic (sp) acid! The entire procedure was done out doors for lotz of fresh air.

    I don’t think this was really necessary because all components were sand blasted afterwards. This is the just out of the cabinet.

    After blasting, the parts were cleaned with TSP in boiling distilled water for 10 minutes and then rinsed in distilled water for an additional 10 minutes.

    After the final rinse, the parts were cooked in AN and Lye using the procedure outlined by Fudd in his bluing tutorial (thanks Fudd)

    After only 20 minutes, I removed the parts and allowed them to soak overnight in Water Displacing Oil.

    The parts were basted in very well timed intervals (when ever I thought of it!).

    The rifle was reassembled and this is the results:

    And

    She shoots real good and is a real pleasure to be seen with. And, it was great fun!
    Have a good day.

    Thanks Guys;
    Yes the the flat had prebent rails. I was a bit concerned because the rails seemed a bit high but it functionsl flawlessly. I had heard that they may cuse cycleing problems but again, no problems yet.
    Have a gud un.
