Pantera you have something to be proud of. In a few years time I think these custom builds will be quite the collectible. I plan to hand mine down to my children or nephew (no kids of my own yet).
Hey hcpookie, I have been tossing around ideas in my head from some of the great ideas you had about the having the bolt handle up front on the left side like the vektor cr21.
You are right, I think it would be fairly easy to do.
Also a front push button safety should not be hard neither.
Oh crap, looks like I gotta go buy another kit and receiver and go back to work.
Maybe this one will only take me a year. LOL
It would appear that on the vektor cr21 that it has a thicker walled rear sight block allowing for the hole (for operating rod) to be more on the out side.
I think moving the charging handle inward a bit would work, but it sounds like you would be just grazing the gas tube. Also you would have some alteration to the dust cover.
New to the site, also first AK-47 build and want to tell you that is one beautiful AK. You have given me new ideas on how to do my AK when all the parts arrive next week. At the moment I am in the planning stages and trying to decide whether to buy a built receiver or fab my own receiver. This is a really great looking site.

Welome TA, I think you have made a good decision joining this site. I have been a member at another site, but find this one to be the nicest most professional one out there.
If you have any questions, just post em, I can help with what I know, And their are other people here that know even a heck of a lot more than me and are very helpfull.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I have been on the road most of the day and its very late or should I say very early in the morning and I am seeing double.... I am wanting to go thru the entire forum here, as it seems most if not all the info I might need is on this site. Is there any US company that makes a replacement barrel for the AK? I am thinking a 6mm based on the standard round would be a nice light rifle, but that will have to wait until after I get the AK built with the barrel in the kit. I am getting one of the AMD-65 for my first build, as they have all milled parts and matching serials. Again thanks for the warm welcome
I am unaware of anyone making ak barrels here in the U.S.
I have heard talk of it, but nothing ever came about. Keep in mind, that if someone does, it might not have the chrome lining.
Should probably put this in a new thread, but you could put any barrel on an AK, just need to sleeve it so it will fit the trunion. It would need to be flat on the breech end so the ejector notch could be milled, but it could be done.
The same holds true for the regs on a Bullpup, 16+inch barrel oal min of 27 inches If I remember right, As the bullpup rifle has a rear stock it's a rifle. Now there was a Bullpup pistol made by Bushmaster and it had a Barrel of somewhere of about 8 to 10 inches and no rear stock so it was a pistol but if you add a stock this would be a SBR and subject to all Fed. taxes.

That is one beautiful rifle. I was never fond of the look.Well now that has changed. I have a bullpup kit I picked up at a show a few years ago and never used. It is plastic and looked kind of cheap so it just sat in the closet. Now I am inspired. I think I will use it as a patern to do a wood stock. I hope I can make one look as nice as yours and not like a 2 by 4. Thanks for letting us see your hard work. :thumbup1:
Thanks!
Just take your time, and it will turn out the way you want.
If you need any help drop me a note. I am also familiar with the set you have now. (K-Var)
Thanks AMD63 ! Actualy the upper handgaurd was the most time consuming.
I had to test the cuts on a piece of oak before I dove into the walnut.
Createdeemcee, I took it out and test fired it, and was shooting at a small piece off wood at about 75 yards, It appeared to be off to the left about an inch or two.
When I mounted the PK-AS I roughly sighted it in. I just need to take a target with me next time and zero it in.
I mainly wanted to make sure the thing fired being a new receiver and all.
