Default My Romy "G" weld build, light OD/satin black GunKote

Here is my Romy "G" kit built AK. I actually completed the build last year, but just did a quick BBQ grill paint finish on it, didnt get around to Gun Koting it until this week. I was a little nervous about how the color would match the wood, but now that I have done it I really like it.
a little history, This is my first AK build and my second Gun Kote project and I am proud to say that I did everything my self (with much help from the forums here and over at ar15.com) Its a weld build on a Tapco flat, I consider myself a skilled ameteur welder and this option was much easuer fo me that rivets (though much more permanent) all the trunnion holes were opened up to 3/8" to allow for a stronger weld (more surface area) and I drilled holes in the sides to weld the carriers on. The stocks are refinished in Minwax "sedona red" (I wanted something close to the original reddish color of the stocks, but subdued) Then I put a few coats of clear laquer on and recreated the original black stripe on the butstock (dont know why, but I just love the way that looks)
The finish is KG GunKote Flat Light OD green and Satin black. It was applied over a base prepared with sandblasting with 400 grit aluminum oxide media and a coating of KG K-Phos. it was applied with a very cheap "hobby" type airbrush and an ancient compressor.
I am quite happy with how it turned out, I am currently working on a CETME build and cant with to get that finished.

Very nice "First Build." Like the "rivetless" look, it gives the impression of a milled receiver. Have never built one, but your excellent job is inspiring.

Thanks for all the kind words. I have shot it plenty(500+ rounds) and it shoots great. I actually finished building it over a year ago. just now got around to giving it a proper finish
