Well here they are, my first two AK builds ever. They are ready to be tested and refinished.
First one I started with was the AMD65. It was sort of a challenge using a OOW receiver. Lets just say there was allot of fitting and dremel action going on. Other than that I think she turned out decent for my first time.
The second build used a beater Romy kit that came from the IO group buy. Since the kit was mismatched and well used, I decided to build something a tad different. I used a Ewbanks receiver that I purchased at a local show here. The receiver is decent but there are some fitting issues but nothing like the OOW. The bigest problems I had was the dimples were pressed too far in and would bind a magazine up. Had to file them down some. Also there is a rail above one of the dimples. I believe it is a mag stop or something. Well it would not let a mag seat into the locked position. Comparing it to my OOW receiver and factory built guns I see that it was way too wide and needed to be ground down allot. After a good Dremmel session I got it to finally take a mag correctly. Lastly, this is one hard ass receiver!!! It took some time with the drill press and my new titanium drill bits are now totally worn out after a few usages. You'll have to use allot of oil while drilling this receiver or it'll start squealling like a stuck pig.
Nice rifles, and I like your dog too!!! Thanks for the pics.
Very sharp looking builds. Nice to finally get them done huh?
Congrats helldriver! I hope my first ones turn out that good.
That looks cool to me!

Thanks Mbadboys. It was nice getting them done, espeacially the AMD65. I think Ive had that kit sitting around for about a year while I contemplated whether I could actually do it myself. Without inspiration from all of the Gunco members here I do not think I would have tackled it.Originally Posted by mbadboyz
