    Default ATF Regulations regarding homebuilding

Here is the ruling straight from the ATF website regarding the laws surrounding homebuilding. I hope this clears up some misconceptions

    http://www.atf.gov/firearms/building_a_firearm.pdf

Here is the pdf version of the book of firearms laws they sent me along with my C&R license:

    http://www.atf.gov/pub/fire-explo_pub/2005/p53004/

You should read this stuff. It's straight from the horse's mouth, and it's very clear about what is and what isn't legal.

and finally here are the firearms laws under Title 44 of the US Legal Code.

    http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/casecode/uscodes/18/parts/i/chapters/44/toc.html

Read this stuff. It's interesting and it has a direct impact on YOUR life.

It might be a good Idea to have this be a sticky or its own forum for this important information. It is all ways brought up.

I'm glad ya'll found it informative. I love reading this stuff, and I'm always amazed at how directly the ATF addresses issues about which there are so many debates.

Make it a sticky. This is the best, shortest and most to the point of any I have read . (And I have read a lot)

Good information, but can you show how you find that page on the ATF website? I've looked all over the firearms/ FAQ's pages and never seen it. I'd seen the info/PDF, but I thought someone else put it together, not ATF...

Maybe they made it hard to find for a reason!

I found that if you use the search function for "building" you'll find it, but I'd still like to find out why it isn't easily located...

I moved this one to legal issues. Good stuff.

I know we all love to hate the ATF, but they're the guys who have to enforce what Congress passes as laws. I talk to my local ATF people, and they're decent folks who genuinely try to be helpful, and teach us all how to own guns without violating the law. That's why they have a website in the first place. I recently ran into a local ATF guy at the range, and it turns out he loves AK's, and is pretty upset that he may one day be prohibited from owning his.
