we had something similar happen here in my neck of the woods.

Sandusky Register Editor Matt Westerhold Declares War on Gun Owner Privacy | Buckeye Firearms Association

His reasoning is that it was public record, so he should put it in the paper. Unfortunately his argument didn't make much sense, as he wasn't interested in publishing other things that he stated in his editorial.
I guess he just didn't understand that publishing the names of people that owned guns wasn't a great idea. I wonder how many folks got thei homes broken into because of that asshole.

This kind of thing happens from time to time. There are a variety of legal and ethical techniques to discourage these invasions of privacy.
Examples range from passing laws making the info illegal to publish to pay-back in the form of publishing phone numbers & addresses of key people in the media.

Here in SD, when a reporter did the same, they looked up his personal info and posted it prominently in the comments section of the CCW database.
I have a daughter. I tell her, "911 is what you dial after you're raped. 1911 is what you should have before they try."

oh yes, there was retaliation in the Westerhold case.
Just search Mat Westerhold on Google and you'll see what I mean.

It looks like the good guys are showing Mr. Westerhold the error of his ways.
They are showing some mercy , at least in the beginning.

Gun-grabbers often think they get away clean.
    Not anymore.

Mutual support is a wonderful thing:

    Westerhold's work number: 419-609-5866

    His paper's 800 number: 800-466-5500
