I took that to heart as a young man. I haven't yet died gallantly, conned a ship, planned an invasion or set a bone. Something to look forward to

I'll agree with that, unfortunately there are many that can do none of those things.
Spent the first 12 years of my adult life blowing things up, next 17 fabricating/ welding so along the way I've picked up a lot of skills. The fact that I've been too poor to pay people to do work for me, so I had to figure out how to do it myself has helped.
