Another thing I've noticed is all the Cop Dramas on TV have the cops immediately disarming themselves when at home or the office. I mean, the absolute first thing they do is get that gun off, like carrying it for one more second is going to hurt them or something.
Usually at home it goes in a small easily stolen lockbox and at work it goes in an unlocked desk drawer. Besides the problem of you may need it right way at any time, at work guns in unsecured drawers are a major safety risk. How many times have you seen a suspect or other civillian sitting beside someones desk as they question them or fill out a report, then get called away for some reason. Loaded gun just 2 feet away.
