I never had a choice as to who went to Washington. The Democratic and Republican Parties, which are corporate entities who aren't responsible to the Fed or the people, make those decisions. They play out a "democratic" charade of primaries and runoffs, but they pick every single candidate I'm allowed to "vote" for, and there's fuck-all difference between them. So I schlep down to the polls every time, and vote against the one who looks like the biggest idiot.
We have political parties because our electoral system is a popularity contest. The parties started out as fund managers turning contributions into advertising. Now they've inserted themselves into the election process so that in most places you can't even get a candidate onto the ticket without party backing.
