Postak Virginia: Page County Board of Supervisors to Defy State Law and Consider Restrictiv

Today, November 20 at 7:00 pm., the Page County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing to consider a proposed noise ordinance which would amend the current law, Chapter 81, Noise, in its entirety. The proposed prohibitions contain an exemption for formal or informal sport shooting, but would not allow for the discharge of machine guns, which are regulated under the 1934 National Firearms Act (“NFA”), or “other like types of firearms and weaponry.”  Section 15.2-917, of the Virginia Code, however, states the following: “No local ordinance regulating any noise shall subject a sport shooting range to noise control standards more stringent than those in effect at its effective date.”  The enactment of such vague and arbitrary restrictions on your Second Amendment rights would set a bad precedent, open the door to future limitations and discriminate against law-abiding residents who choose to exercise those rights.
