I was lucky enough to meet the man back in the early 70s. He showed up at a casual pre-competition practice on the East coast of FLA, just outside of Fort Lauderdale. The competition was called Walk-and-Draw at the time and we used full weight, full size Colts and the added weight actually helped cock the trigger, as the draw was one-handed. He was lightning back then but in a conversation with a few guys he just off-handedly commented that Jerry Lewis was faster than him. At that time Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Peter Lawford, Jerry Lewis and some other HollyWood types were regular fast draw and shooting officianadoes.
I doubt if anybody can take his place. I'm sure that some are as fast but with the attitude that too many shooters have today, I wouldn't pay to see them or buy their DVDs.
Rest in Peace, Robert. You will be missed.
