I'm ready to upgrade my little benchtop drill press to a floor model. I'm looking for some recommendations. I don't want to take out a second mortgage for this, but I want to get a decent machine thats accurate and doesn't have a lot of vibration. Locally available I have sears craftsman, delta and Home depots Ridgid brand.

Tom--This is a tough one because the price/quality judgement is individual. I use the cheap chink; my buddy uses the high dollar Ridgid. We're both happy.

Get one that has a rack and pinion table lifter thingy! Ask me how I know!

I've put alot of use on one I bought at Tractor Supply it is a Clarke. If you look at the group build photos on Magnus 392's link you'll see it. It was on sale for $139, I think they're higher now. I've had it three years. Its drilled lots of stuff, made piles of steel chips. I'm happy for its been used hard and stood up to it.

Well you can never go wrong with Rigid tools. They have been the industry standard for years. They are tough & reliable. You may want to check the Rigid website. Often times they have better deals than Home Depot.
