View Full Version : Best 7.62 Receiver for build?

Who has the best 1mm receiver that is hardened for a Yugo Krink build? I would also like to use that same receiver for the other 9 various kits I have squirreled away.

ditto. Use the global trades 1.6mm if you have access to a mill or surface grinder. It takes 20 minutes and is as solid as a milled. If you don't then get a global trades 1mm.

I am a big fan of the 1mm GT receivers. REally nice.
I'm with the collective, go with the GT. I'm currently building a 74 s/f
on one, real joy to work with.

OK...I'll be different. Ewbanks

GT 7.62 is the favorite in my book. Not as happy with their 5.45 though.
BTW - grapevine has it that they have a new shop manager in house - Andre' Varin's replacement. IMHO, they have a few quality issues to resolve to make their products elevate to the "outstanding" level
Whats up with the 5.45 Ilya?

The issue I have with the 5.45 is that from what I understand (talking with a few people at GT) is that when Ivan designed the bolt rails there was not enough allowance made for 5.45 version. The 5.45 receiver would have a wider lower rail (rung) such that the narrower space between the lower rung on the bolt rails would be the same width as the width of the mag opening in the bottom of the receiver. In other words the width of between the space of the lower rungs of the bolt rails should be the same width as the mag opening in the bottom of the receiver. The 5.45 space between the lower rung rails is approx 0.060 wider than that of the mag opening in the receiver. If the bolt rail lower rungs were wider in design this problem would not exist for the 5.45. Slide in a magazine into their 5.45 receiver and you can easily see a large gap between the side of the magazine and the lower bolt rail rung.
The problem does not exist for the 7.62 since the openings are wider and the design accommodates for these dimensions - the space between the lower rungs is the same as the width of the mag opening.
BTW - Had problems with roundness on axis pins on the 7mm (left hand) side of the receiver on both the 5.45 and the 7.62. Seems they have had difficulty milling thru the "crows feet" and maintaining a nice round hole. Problem doesnt' seem to exist on the 1.6mm receivers - no crow's feet
BTW 2 - They seem to have resolved their problems with letting warped receivers (due to heat treating) out
Thanks for the info, gonna have to look closer at mine. Oh and I know about those warped recievers, I got 2 of them.

Thanks All!!! I think that I will order a couple of GT receivers when I get my next paycheck. Going to try a 1mm and a 1.6mm (Need to justify the milling attachment for my lathe).

Yup - GT. But be warned - they are currently out of stock. Don't expect anything until about late October.

If you are tooling up to properly narrow the trunions yourself, I'll bet you end up preferring the 1.6mm receivers. When you get it all done, the finished product is noticably better than the standard 1.0mm . The only thing stopping the 1.6mm receiver from taking most of the market is the trunion narrowing hassle.

In terms of AK74 receivers, does the OOW 74 receiver have the low selector holes like their 47 receiver does?
