View Full Version : my polish underfolder

I just wanted to share. I got this kit from Dan's Ammo. Grade A. All the paint is original except for the receiver. It is painted with Alumahyde II flat black. I did absolutely nothing to the wood, it came that nice. Pretty smooth build really. The "ears" of the rear trunion were bent in a little. Didn't notice until after i riveted. That made the bolt carrier stick in the back. A little leverage applied with a prybar to make it square fixed it pretty quick. The big hole for the folder was made with a step drill bit and finished with a few files. I have a large cache of files that I found at work (I am a garbage man!). Large files small files coarse files fine files in all the shapes and sizes I could ever want. A little rusty but they cleaned up really nice and work even better. The little holes on the top and bottom of the big hole on one side were made with a tiny oval shaped file in about 5 minutes! OH! and my bolt cutter rivetermajigs wouldnt reach the bottom-most rivets on the rear so chucked up a cut down 10-32 screw in my drill press and went at it with a file. Then tapped, and screwed them in. The hex was filled in with JB Weld and sanded smooth. Can hardly tell. I'll do it right when I get my press and jig and all that. Works for now.

Thats sweet! I sure do love them underfolders.
Nice work, a thing of beauty. I'm still undecided on whether to use a Global Trades or an Ewbanks receiver on mine. I got an awesome condition kit from Dan's too.

I got two other underfolder kits elsewhere for almost as much and they weren't NEARLY as nice. Even the demill was done well. The really amazing thing is the wood. There is not one single imperfection on the wood at all!

What receiver did you use?
Has anyone tried the Cold steel 80% made for these?

I used a plain jane Arsenal 1mm receiver for this. The holes in the back weren't all that hard to make really.

yea you usually blast down an AK then heat it spray it then bake at 300 for 1.5 hours. stuff works good. MCARMS will be offering it done he did mine if your interested then I can give you his info.
