Truthfully, I've never pulled one out but it appears to be part of the rear breach block. Sometimes when you parkerize a lower you can make out the pins that hold in the rear block because they are of a little different metal than the rest of the trigger housing. I would think that if they are just pressed in that you would need to press them out and then you could remove the rear breech block from the rest of the lower or trigger housing. On the SA lower that I am looking at you can make out one pin about an inch under the rear sight base, right behind the ears of the breech block itself and the other can be seen above the pistol grip stud. The tang itself also appears to be solder onto the block. On closer examination there appears to be a small pin right in the base of the housing as well, about 1/2 an inch behind the pistol grip stud. Sounds like a lot of work and I have no idea what you have in mind buy how about a dremmel tool and just cut the bugger off?

Ditto what 308 said. That tang isn't something you need to remove unless you're looking to modify that lower.

I was hoping to use my old lower so I wouldn't have to refinish one but it looks like I'm going to stick with the Sarco para lower that came with the folding stock. I'll probably pick up another U.S. made hammer, trigger, sear set and just have 2 lowers with corresponding top covers and bolt carriers, one with a folding stock and one with a regular stock. Thanks guys!

Well im not sure what your wanting totally... but i'll tell you how the lower works. (forgot what tang meant)
Ok well the stock comes off by unscrewing the little butplate screws. then theres the spring system with the outter toob. Thats not supposed to be removed. you also have push pin system for the lower. you just unscrew the lower from the upper and then remove the lower. if you want the trigger out just rotate the selector all the way up... (fiddle with it abit) PM me if you need more help I don't have my FN anymore but I do rememeber wtf to do cuz I built mine.

Thanks PG but what I wanted to know was if it was possible (and not too difficult) to remove the tang extension that protrudes out of the rear of the lower so I could put a folding stock hinge block on it. It's not so I won't.:)
