Thanks Twissted 1, I have tried the DPH site before. It will let me fill up my basket with goodies , but I can't get through the checkout. I'm using a WebTV and it just won't work with his secure pages. I get big black blocks where there should be info. I'll either find another source or go to a friend with a regular PC. It seems like someone should offer this at a better price , $ 50 is kind of high for one die ( which he calls a "tap" ) Anyone else know of a good source for a tap and die ?

eh it really is easier with a TAT tho. the die is a much better price, thank you for the link pfalz2,Freedom2u you might want to make a TAT since it is better to mess up some old cut barrel or some cheap round bar than it is to mess up the barrel on your rifle/pistol, just a thought. I deffinatly suggest it. if you have cut your barrel and are re threading it then you already have the tip of the barrel threaded. just cut below that and take either a peice of 30cal round bar or wood dowel, or even a bullet and use that instead of buying a TAT from someone. if you are threading a saiga or something else then I guess you don't have any spare barrel but still I am sure you can come up with something creative ;) good luck. Thanks to all of you ! I want to shorten a barrel for a pistol build and then rethread it. I would like to make my own muzzlebrake, which is why I wanted the tap too. I can see that the TAT tool would be handy if you were freehanding the operation,... but I plan to thread it with the barrel in the lathe chuck with the tailstock jammed against it to keep it square. Putting a chuck in the tailstock to hold a tap will also ensure a square entry for tapping a hole in a muzzlebrake as well. Thanks again for the links. Good folks and info here at Gunco !
