I have almost completed my first build. Its a 1983 Romanian G kit. I just need to put the FCG and refinish the receiver. I have to tell you, I thought it would take more work but, it was relitivly simple...Once I aquired the tools. Im sure, it will be a much harder job, convincing my wife that the four other kits I have, I have had for a long time. Hopefully, I can snag a few more before she finds out:rofl: (I order them while she sleeps and build them when shes at work) Although, she really seems to like the one that is almost completed. And she was happy that I got new carpet in the dinning room.:thumbup1: Which leads me to my question. Hopefully, everyone answers here. Out of all the AK kits out there on the market, which one do you like the best for whatever reason. I really would like input from everyone. I personaly like the Hungarian SA-85, dont have one yet but, ....She's in bed right now:sleep:
Before my next build, I would like to get that SA-85, a Yogu straight stock and a Bulgarian. Thats why I need extensive input from the whole GunCo community.
I just want to learn the different quirks about all of the AK's that you guys have built.

I'm fond of AKs with a forward pistol grip, i.e. the Romys and the AMD-65.
I like the itty bitty Krinks, and having acquired a kit I've a new found appreciation for the heavy duty qualities of the RPK.

Basically the same, I like the foregrip versions. AMD-63, AMD-65.

as nice as the russian kits are, try buying one without breaking your wallet. probably won't happen. I am a big fan of polish ak's it has been said that the polish versions are the closest to russian you can really get without being russian. I may be wrong but I love them, aside from that anything with a nice chrome lined bore and good rifling is great. I would say get an SA85 or if you really want something like a AMD65 you kinda missed the boat but you could always turn a cheap romy into a lookalike fairly easily. what I mean by that is unless you are hell bent on having authentic ak's don't spend the over inflated prices for an amd when it is just a modified AKM and you already have 4 romy AKM's? right? just My .02 I bought my AMD's when they ran 99 bux like the romy's. Polish U/F because it is closest to the original AKMS pattern, and for me, it is the nicest to shoot. Next is the AMD65 pistol, just for the fun of it.

Out of all my AK's, my pistol is the most fun to shoot. :lildevil:

I really like Krinks until I shot some. That kind of got it out of my system. My fav. now it the 100 series with the polymer side-folder wiith the short barrels in any caliber. I have a full size .223 dressed as the above statment that I really like a lot.

Yugos of all sorts, and I really like the Tantals

I don't have one, but I think those tantal onyx guns are pretty bad ass!

These are my two favorite AK's...my Norinco 762-AKS and my 84S...

Like alot of you have stated, I like all of them. My four other builds that Im going to be working on are 2 1978 romy's, a tantal and a early 70's Polish underfolder. The underfolder was a parked kit I got from DPH Arms back at Christmas time. I cant wait to build it. The parts are beautiful to say the least.

Hungarian SA-85. Best quality parts I have ever seen on an AK.

SA-85 is a great choice.
One of my favorites.
