Is there a form letter to write to the ATF concerning legal queries? What is the address, and to whom is the letter made out to? "Dear ATF"?

This is the page of the ATF website FAQs for the heading "who should I contact for further questions", it might help you out :)

each and every letter I have seen about answering legal question about firearms came from the Chief Firearms Technology Branch.....I would address your question to that guy, I believe the chief of the tech branch is named nixon, the other guy he replaced was named owens
I'm pretty sure his address and full name in on the ATF website somewhere
I wouldn't even mess with the branch offices, they'll probably tell you to contact the tech branch......they are the ones where their answers count

you may want to contact 762x54, he is experienced with them and may give you some good tips. possibly read some of the letters posted from other people asking questions to get some tips to.

I am of the opinon that one should read the regulations and figure it out for yourself. Every once in awhile someone writes them assholes a letter and then they start thinking then the next thing you know something that was alright for years is all of a sudden reevaluated and then it is declared illegal. Some people just dont know enough to leave well enough alone. The replacement of M-16 receivers comes to mind.

Not that I know of. Good Luck. I'm still waiting for a reply to a letter - sent a 2nd copy - of about 7 years ago! I'm convinced that on some gray area questions they dont want to answer because they rely on intimidation, not the law.
