View Full Version : Riveting tips?

I will be doing my first build soon after my custom serial numbered DCI receiver gets here. It will be on an ORF brand new painted wood kit. I'm replacing the wood with Kvar black US made polymer. I'll be using a G-2 FCG ans I'm also installing a optic rail. I have Plinkers rivet jigs. Do you builders have any tips or things for a first timer to watch out for when using these jigs (long, trunion and trigger guard jigs) to help me get those factory looking rivet heads? I only have a 6 ton press, so I am hoping that it has enough guts to mash all 4 of the trigger guard rivets at the same time.

I think Curtis ( http://ak-builder.com/ak/index.php ) has instructions for plinker's jigs on his site.
Also The TG jig is basically the same as the one I used to sell.
Instructions for that are in the library here,
Good luck with your build. Let us know if you have any more questions.

When using the long rivet jig use the alignment pins to center the rivet up in the bolt. That's the difference between a good and a bad rivet. Along with having the rivets that are the right length, which 90% of the ones being sold are a little short.
