My CMP Inland carbine showed up today. Nice looking gun but not much rifling left and the extractor doesn't work. But what could I expect. I did order it on the last day they were available. I think I'm going to order another one, a National Postal Meter, but I think I'll order it on the first day they come available.

Congrats on your new rifle. Plenty of extra parts on the market so don't worry about the extractor. Do you know when more will be available? I missed out at Fort Meade last time. I didn't read the e-mail they sent till it was too late.

Just go to the CMP website. They have the dates when the other carbines will be released. The Underwoods are to be released this Sept. but the National Postal Meters won't be available until August 2008.

Keep track of the dates that they start accepting order forms, and get them in the maill ASAP. Two of the guys I shoot with got in on the first deal early and got really nice looking rifles.
Anybody know where to find good info on the Universal models?
I mailed my order by snail mail on 3 May. Carbine showed up 2nd week on June. Mostly Inland metal, not refinished with nice cartouched Inland low wood stock and matching hg. No stickies, I figured that I would be happy with anything sent.

They have more Inlands RIGHT NOW. I just looked at the CMP forum and it's like Shark WEEK over there. I don't like getting involved in a frenzy & can usually find much better prises at small town shows.

Shark week is right!

I'm glad I looked though.........They just announced a LARGE batch of Garands coming from the Army! I'm filling out the forms RIGHT NOW! I was afraid they would never have any more at the CMP. Well hell.........As long as I'm filling forms out, I may as well start collecting carbines as well. Looks kind of like a " Brand of the month club" on the carbines. I think the Garands are a good investment.
Nice looking carbine Wiley!

Can anyone in the new 'Ethanol state' .... err.... Hoosier state, clue me in on what I need to do in order to get in on the deals right quick? Please!!!

The CMP site has all the info, links below. You need to belong to a CMP affiliated gun club and have proof of "marksmanship acyivity". A club bulletin showing your match results works, or if you have a Indiana handgun permit that works too. Fill out the order forms and such, mail in. And Wait Patiently! I really want one of those Service Grade Garands!

While I see lots of carbines at shows for less money than the CMP carbines, I don't think I've EVER see a nice Garand at a show for $595.00. In fact , many of the ones I see are twice that.
BTW: the CMP now accepts C&R's in lieu of some of the requirements. The Garand Collectors Association is cheap & puts out a very nice periodical. Worth joining if you have any interest in Garands.
