View Full Version : 7.62x25 barrel blanks - guaging interest

A guy I know has some barrels that I am trying to get him to chamber and turn for 7.62 x25 ak barrels. They would be similar to the ones that used to be on weaponeer.Either enfield or springfield (I can't remember which)that are chambered and with the extractor cut done. They would be turned down close to trunion size but that's it.More lathe work would be needed to finish them like cutting to lenght, threading and fitting the parts.Price would be $75 plus shipping and I would need at least 10 people to get him interested.Nothing definite,I want one and it will take a little doing to get him to put aside his regular work to get it done.

I will take one ak and I would also like a few pistol length barrels also if that could be done.

I'm trying to get him to do one for me.He's got a long backlog of work already. If enough people express interest I will see if I can get him to push it up and make some extras. If it happens I'll post his information here.

I'm looking for a 7.62x25 carbine length barrel. Definitely count me in.

Interested here as well. I like the idea of this caliber for use in an FAL conversion. I have ones in 9mm and 45acp. A 7.62x25 would be better as I have a lot of that ammo and it's the only pistol caliber surplus that's still cheap.

some one could stay busy buying cheap surplus and new takeoff barrels and turning these into 7.62x25 barrels i would like one that screws into a fal reciever and one for a ak.

Unfortunatly I don't think this is going to happen.I'm getting mine but he isn't going to be doing any more.If something changes I'll post here but I don't see it happening any time soon.Just for the thought, a good blank for these is a drill gun barrel from an 03 Enfield. When you can find them they're pretty cheap because they have a rod pounded into the chamber.Once you cut the end off you can chamber it and turn it to fit an ak or ppsh without any problems.

HMMMM thanks for the drill gun barrel idea. are there any sources out there for these?? I might be able to do some if there is enough interest and money in it to make it worth while. I dont have a reamer but that can be had. I would need a cheap reliable source of barrels though. I really would not want to work on some one elses barrel in fear I could damage it.

WHAT BORE IS THE O3 ENFIELD?? .308 OR .312 WERENT THESE 303 BRITISH????
IF I CAN GET AT LEAST 10 CONFIRMED ORDERS AND DEPENDING ON BLANKES BEING AVALIABLE I MAY BE UP TO TOOLING UP AND MAKING SOME OF THESE. COST WILL BE DEPENDANT ON HOW MUCH TIME I HAVE TO GET INTO TURNING THESE DOWN TO THE CORRECT PROFILE. ECT. IF GUYS WANT JUST A CHAMBERD BARREL THEN IT WOULD BE LESS. IM LOOKING AT SOME POSSABLE SOURCES FOR BLANKS. IS THE 7.62X25 A .308 BORE OR A .311,.312 ??????

I'm not exactly sure. The ones he showed me were 03a3s and I think they were in 3006.I'm sure there's a chart out there somewhere.
The 7.62x25 caliber is used in a .308 bore so any 30-06, 30-30 or 308 barrel is good to use for the project. I don't know why this particular russian caliber varied for the .311 bore used for the 7.62x39 or 7.62x54. ( The 303 British caliber is also a .311 bore.)
For awhile there were 30-06 remington take off barrels available for cheap. I found one on GunBroker. I still need to find a reamer for 7.62x25 or 30 Mauser but that project is still on the back burner so there is no rush.

Hello Tokarev Barrel Guys,
I looked in Frank Barnes Cartridges of the World to get a handle on the 7.62x25 Tokarev bullet and bore size. No help !!
So I miked a NIB PPS-43 7.62x25mm barrel using a digital caliper. That revealled a .311 bore the same as my Hungarian AMD-65 AK barrel. A double check via a bore test with an AK bullet (from E. German gray steel ammo) revealled the same bore size.
The Soviets used the same barrel making and rifling machinery for their Mosin-Nagant rifles, burpguns, SKS's and AK's. Their burpgun barrels were said to be Moisin-Nagant blanks made into three pieces - a handy wartime economy at the urging of "Uncle Joe" Stalin. He could really urge too !!
The Soviet bores are nearly identical to the Brit .303 (Enfield, Bren, etc). They are also nearly identical to the Jap 7.7mm Arisaka. They are close to the 7.65x53mm Mauser (Argentine, Belgium, and Turk) 1889-1891 rifles which use a .313 inch bullet.
Maybe one of you fellows would measure a 7.62x25mm Tokarev FMJ bullet and post your findings here. The 7.52x25 Tokarev and 7.63x25 Mauser were both copied from the .30 Bochardt, an American cartridge but they were both loaded a bit hotter. I can't find one tonight in my stuff.
