View Full Version : PPsh 41 build as a pistol?
11-17-2008, 02:05 PM
Has anyone built a Ppsh 41 into a pistol? Has anybody built one of these and have some pictures to share? I was going to consider converting one of my Romy kits into a 7.62x25 pistol, as such a large cartridge (7.62x39) seems out of place in a pistol, until I googled the "burp gun" for my grandfather who fought in Korea. Needless to say, I haven't even gotten off the ground yet with my Romy's and now I want to build one of those burp guns for myself as a pistol since I am sure compliant parts aren't available and no way am I going to SBR that thing. This way I can keep my excellent Romy's as rifles and still have the toy I so desire. I'll look at pics of rifles too, just postanything, especially if it is odd or different. I build like Mad Max so the more post apocalyptic looking the better as far as I am concerned. Thanks in advance!

yes yes and yes.
my good friend NItegunner and me have built quite a few ppsh's between us and he has the pistol version.
you can see the build of it at weaponsguild.com under ppsh.
pretty straight forward build that way.

That is cool! but this is more of what I had in mind. I love sawed off double barrel shotguns and this is sort of along those same lines. The ultimate home defense system! Or just something to take out into the woods and blast away at those stinking armidillos that rut up my G-pas' place in AR!!!!!!! I have found kits without barrels or trunions, will a ppsh 43 barrel and trunion fit the ppsh 41? with mods?

and again, I'll put these back into context and post the big picture later.

nah the 43 barrel doesnt work in the 41...
im sure you could turn it and weld it till it did but you can just buy one from IO pretty cheap.
you can also do like weaponeer did and cut that stock off at the tang and mount an AK/AR style grip to the lower tang screw. that looked pretty cool also....
im lousy with the paint program or id show you what i mean...
that pic disappeared, but it winds up being about 3" shorter than the one in your pic is.
they are great guns and i wouldnt hesitate to do this if i had the extra kits....

Won't work, completely different.
I have found kits without barrels or trunions,
I got one on GunBroker right now, with barrel & trunion.

Hey Coils, I saw that kit on GB, it was a nice kit no doubt but I am struggeling to get these two AKs together, see I JUST learned of this hobby and envy you guys that speak of having bought $65 AMD's. I hope you get what you are wanting for it as it really looks good!!! I still want to see some pics of some builds!
Dutigaf, I gave you credit for sending me over to the other site, I had to join to see the stuff and they asked so...

thank you very much.
that site and this site get along fine and we recommend each other back and forth... no issues between the 2 sites at all.
Nitegunner has a real nice build of this, just wish i was good at that photshop stuff you guys do..

Here is a PPSh-41 variant from Vietnam via red China. It is the K-50M version of the PLA K-50 smg which itself is a chinese PPSh-41.
This smg is a cool "manchurian kandidate" for a pistol. K-50M parts kits are not available so you would use a "regular" PPSh-41 as a starting point. An AK pistol grip and shortened front sight must be added. The barrel jacket is cut back and squeezed down to a small bushing (washer ??).
As a pistol the wire stock (a copy of the French MAT-49) is deleted. If used it would be a SBR and require registration as an NFA item. The action etc is of course altered for semi-only operation as is done with other PPSh-41 builds.

I think you should market them!

Well I have not worked in quite sometime now and the price of kits just keeps going up so unless I can luck up on one of these kits cheap from someone NOT trying to put their three kids through college AND retire on the sale of that ONE kit, then I will have to let it go, BUT, should one of you fine folks build it, PLEASE post some pics!
Thanks for the input from you guys, I really appreciate it, now back to the Uzi and AMD-65 pistol builds.

Yup, this economy really sucks and crimps cool builds but so has the gov't with its' BS import restricting.
For an econo approach to a semi K-50M pistol build you can squeeze by with just a PPSh-41 bolt and lower frame. All the other parts can be scratched out of barsock, sheet metal, and recycled AK bits. The barrel can be from a .308 blank rechambered or what ever you can find in 7.62x25mm Tokarev. The PPSh-41 mags are avaiable as well as drums. Drawings are available for many PPSh-41 parts.
A mill, and welder will be needed as well as lots of spare time.
Last May when this thread was evolving these parts were available. Today will require serious shopping to find them.

Some more K-50M info for econo builders...
Bolts = $45.oo from MGS
lower frame (Chinese) = $35.oo from Omega Weapons Syst.
toasty barrel = $25.oo from Omega Weapons Syst.
complete PPSH-41 kit (less barrel) = $169.95 from MGS (Military Gun Supply, TX).
Hope this shines some light.
