Other than the Plum 74 I have waiting to be built, what project should I start working on next? I'm interested in the following:
Romak III, have a custom idea
or do you have a better suggestion?

are you looking for something challenging? How about a Saiga conversion, but not a 12.
And not just a PG conversion, but a real conversion, GB, FSB, russian filding stock the whole 'enchilada' so to speak. I am working on a 5.56 now, very challenging to say the least.
A Saiga in 410 or 308, I think I like the 410 because it would certainly be unique. And used by Russian security forces, a real in service type gun.
Your other choices would be great, the 105 needs that extended brake (unless SBR'd), but easily made from a 74m kit, the 74m is great too (I think mine is my favorite shooter now)
Of course the 12 conversion is cool, but the recoil makes it not fun to shoot unless you like bruises. I like the romak, but it's just too long for me.
Unless your itching to start another build right away you may wait a bit to see what the boats are bringing, global is supposed to have the tantals coming soon and I would imagine there will be other straglers coming in too.
Damn, I just can't stop this obession with these AK's

I know this is kind of a stupid question, but what is the .410 good for? I'm not trying to be a wise-guy, I just don't know much about .410 in general.
I have a lot of projects waiting to get tackled anyway so I'm not really in a hurry to add something to the plate but I keep dreaming.
List of things to do already:
Build plum 74
Convert Saiga 7.62 x 39 20"
Convert Saiga .223
NHM-91 to RPK conversion.

I know what you mean about whats it good for, I would have to say not much really. I would go with the cool factor and actual in service weapon factor. Close quarters defense/assault with limited collateral damage. Practical it's not, but when you get right down to it, once you have about 3 or 4 AK's, you have lost practicality anyway.
I found the other picture I was looking for, got to admit it is cool.
Sounds like you have a bunch on your plate anyway, go with a folder of some sort.

I have been tinkering with a few Sten kits. I have one of the semi-conversions almost completed. I needed a break from the AKs for a while. After this Sten is complete, I will be ready to dive into a couple of AK74 side folders!!!!

no, I wish it were mine. But thats the type of conversion I am talking about, this is a factory Izhmash gun.

Go with a Saiga-12 conversion. Supplies are drying up, EAA is no longer importing them and *if* a new distributor brings them in it probably won't be until summer or late '05 w/a price increase.

If I go with trying a Saiga 12K, how would you go about it? Get the Saiga 12, buy the 74M stock with trunnion, send it off to some one? Or is there someone that has the right stocks thats doing conversions?

I know not....Perhaps...wait never,mind...:D

Oh yeah...there's always the Beowulf RPK if I ever decide to go through with having it built. :hugegun: Then again I could always have it built as a AK100.50 , lol.

to convert the Saiga to a folder stock you would have to get the whole folder setup and modify the receiver. It would have to be cut in both the front and rear to allow for the folder. You would also have to have the extra holes welded up. You can do it, I am. Just take your time and it can be done. One interesting thing about the Saiga 12c folder is the front retainer is different than the Bulgie stuff. Check out the comparison of the two.
