View Full Version : Just finished vz-58
03-11-2009, 01:21 PM
I just wanted to post a pic of the vz-58 I just finished last night.
It was built on an ORF receiver and went together great. Like any other kit out there I had some very minor tweaking to do to get everything to function smoothly. But to me thats all part of the fun.
The gun is finished in Lauers vz-2000 and while not a perfect match, it was pretty close to the color on the receiver stub.
Not really an ak but wasn't sure where else to post.

They don't need to be an AK....I hope to get my receiver section in soon to start on mine......BTW..It looks great.

I thought about welding a section in, but the stub on this vz was cut too short, it didn't even have the feed ramp let alone locking lugs. So I went with a full receiver. The ORF receiver worked great, only minor fitting around the locking lugs, but no big deal.
The guys at ORF were great, answered any questions I had and were very helpfull on this build. I can't thank Todd enough, great dealing with them.
Good looking build. Congrats.

Thanks, heading over to the range in the morning to fire off a few rounds. Last time before I move. Love to see how this thing shoots in comparrison to the AK and AR.

I made it out to the range both yeaterday and again today. I already have almost 400 rounds through it with out so much as a hiccup. Yugo mil-surpluss ammo, egyptian ammo and wolf all fed without a problem.
Just got back from the gun show with another 1000 rounds of 7.62 and 1000 of 5.56 for the ar. Now I'm broke, hate spending too much on ammo, but everyone else has been out.

Glad to hear your happy with it.
If you don't mind, how much was the 7.62 at the show?
03-25-2009, 12:04 PM
Sorry I missed that question. By the time I got in, the cheapest I found was 340 for 1000 rnds of 7.62x39 wolf and 425 for 1000 rnds of privi 5.56 55gr. Which is way more than I'm used to paying, but the guy I usually buy wolf from has been out and had no idea when he's getting more in. I actually walked by a large stack that was cheaper, but thought I could find a better deal. By the time(20 min later) I went back the stack was gone and he was sold out. Freakinprices are just crazy.
On another note the egyptian mil-surp I bought from a guy in Pottstown shoots great. Not too far away from you, if you're interested pm me and I'll give you his e-mail He's a decent guy and I usually meet him to get the ammo. Not as cheap as wolf, but brass cased and is marked non corrosive also seems to be more accurate, less fliers than wolf. I think the last 300 cost 120.00

I've heard only great things about vz-58s REALLY COOL lookin' too.
I'm almost a convert, but I have a ton of AK mags.

Thanks, I'll be doing a fixed stock version in the future. These things are great shooters. If you ever get one you won't be disappointed. But if you're looking to build, better hurry as the kits are getting expensive and parts harder to find.

Get a barrel extension on that right away! It's currently unregistered NFA! [The stock barrel is like 15"]

Here's the finished pic with non removable brake. The other pic was before all the internals were installed as I was waiting for parts from czechpoint to show up. The brake is an ak-74 style I purchased from a guy on another forum. The barrel measures a legal 17 5/8. Oh the front sling mount is from an old key ring.

Oh, cool, that's a relief! I'd hate to see a fellow gun-person go to prison over 1" of barrel length.

Never been to nor want to go to jail. Hell never had a speeding ticket, got a warning but thats it. I plan on keeping it that way. Plus too many family members are law enforcement, I would never hear the end of it.

Yeah if you haven't shot one you'll be surprised - you will want to keep it and get rid of your AK! :D
FYI, Hotbarrel makes VZ muzzle attachments... I helped with the "factory" design :) I found the blind pin method is the best on the VZ due to the way the front sight post is designed.

Any pics of his muzzle attachments. I'm going to build a 2nd vz and want to make it a little different from the first. Czechpoint has the extensions, but I would prefer a brake or flash hider. The angle cut ak style, similar to the one found on the century vz's is too short for a true vz barrel. Century uses 16" U.S. made barrels.

I used the czech type brake from ORF.
Along with other tact items.
This is the only platform that I deemed suitable for
throwing some money into for an EBR.
The Vz is more accurate and techincally superior to the
AK in every area.
It is a US part, although a direct copy.
I welded mine on.
I used GunKote.
