View Full Version : How to identify FAL country of origin?
05-27-2009, 01:12 PM
I purchased a FAL kit a few weeks ago, and was wondering how I could tell which country it originated from. Only a few parts are serialized, and the numbers match, so I guess it's a matching kit, but I really don't know. IS there an easy way to tell?
Here are the rest of the pics the Kernel asked for!

Books can (and have!) been written on the subject. Simplest way is to post a pic or two of the kit and we will go from there. Many unique configurations were only used by a single country so simply knowing which variant it is can be all you need for ID. Also, if there is any part of the RH side magwell intact in your kit they usually have the makers info there.

Post some pics and we will see if we can help you out.

They are like AKs, different countries that made them had their own slight differences. The furniture is the easiest way to tell them apart or markings on the lower receiver.

Here are some pics of the kit. Thanks for your help!
Let me know if you need any others!

Great looking kit. I think it's an Imbel, but I'm not sure.

Looks like a re-parked imbel kit.

Pics of the forearm, the muzzle attachment, any receiver pieces, and maybe one of the stock. Most likely an Imbel, but it could be a few others as well.
So far, we know it's a Metric pattern so that eliminates a bunch of possibilities right there.

That's an Imbel from Brazil, type III receiver and muzzle device sure look like Imbel anyway. Non-bipod cut bbl if the handguards are original, if it is cut for the bipod it will have an "extra" journal machined into the bbl, similar to the one the sling swivel mounts on.

Now find yourself an Imbel receiever (gunbroker maybe) and you'll be set.
